Chapter 12

When they went into the house, Kendall was surrounded by loud, blustery males, all vying for her attention. She had no idea what she was supposed to do with so many men surrounding her. “One at a time?”

“How in the hell did you manage to land this one?” Kyle shook his head at Kam. “I mean, if it were me, I could see—”

Kendall shook her head at Kyle. “You’re quite the prick, aren’t you?”

A chorus of loud laughs echoed around her. Kam just stood there with his arms crossed over his chest, beaming at her. Kyle had the decency to look down at the ground and mumbled something about it takes one to know one. His cheeks were red.

“I think she’s a gem,” laughed Kenton Knight.

“I think so too.” Kam wrapped his arm around her shoulders comfortingly.

Kendall was still trying to figure out how she felt about being accepted into such a large family. Having only a few distant relatives, their get togethers had never been nearly as loud and unruly as this one. Kendall wondered if they were always like this. She smiled and looked around the room. The Knights were clearly a blessed family.

Kendall knew she and Kam were a new couple, but she hoped that they endured over time. She had never asked for the specifics of the arrangement. All she knew was when a werewolf claimed its mate, that was the person they would spend the rest of his life with. Or hers. There were probably a fair share of women werewolves too. She wasn’t exactly sure, for Kam was the only one she had met up until this point. Unless she included the Knight men standing before her.

“We had actually almost given up hope for him,” teased Karter.

“You’re one to talk,” Kam almost growled.

“Hey, don’t hate the player, hate the game.” Karter’s smile was bright until Lila walked into the room.

“Game my ass. It’s your time to change the boys, by the way.” She had one boy on each hip.

“Right.”

Kendall was reminded of a puppy who was heading back to his master. It was clear that Lila ruled that roost. It actually appeared as if the women had a fair amount of power in their relationships. That was definitely something Kendall could get behind. She wondered how Kam would react to that. He didn’t seem to be as macho as some of his other brothers. Or was that just the way he acted around her?

Karter turned to see Kam making a face at him. “Hey, just you wait until it’s your turn to do the doody.”

The room broke into another round of laughter. Kendall was the only one who didn’t laugh. They all expected him to have the same thing they did. Kendall wasn’t even sure that was possible. She nibbled her bottom lip and took a slow breath in. Right now, she needed to not focus on that. Even if she were able to have children, there was a monster out there who would continue to haunt her until she put an end to his power.
